GOING SHOEBOX CAMPING
by Jack Portman, Troop 648
September 21-23

Over the weekend of September 21-23, troop 648 went shoebox camping at Camp Jameson, at Bert Adams. We set up camp (In tents for the first night), and went to sleep. When we woke up, we began cooking bacon, but 10 minuets into the process, we were told that we would be late for the "Tiger Growl" if we didn't leave right then, so of course, we left the bacon cooking to caleb, and left.

Philmont 2012

Posted on Mar 11 2013 - 6:52pm

This year the troop sent out a crew to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. It was a 10 day backpacking trip spanning over 50 miles. The seven boys; Matthew Cruthers, Dylan Wallace, Kenz Fraser, Tyler Boger, Andrew Schlossman, Powell Harris and Philip Davis; and three adults; Mr. Wallace, Mr. Harris, and Mr. Neal; trekked though forests and deserts and over mountains for the experience of a lifetime. My favorite part of the trip was when we hiked up the Tooth of Time, which is a very tall mountain where you can see almost all of the Philmont property from the top of. Another cool thing was the lack of fear in the wildlife; when we were at Shaffer's Pass, a large dear just walked straight though our campsite, with all of us sitting in it.
